Honest Sri Lankan student gets to keep $80,000....

Chamindu Amarsinghe said on Thursday he was speechless to hear he will get $81,597 of the cash he found at Channel 9’s Docklands headquarters, after no one came forward to claim it.
       The other $19,500 will go to the state, a magistrate ruled this week.
 Mr Amarsinghe was tidying the ground floor toilets back in August 2011 when he found a sanitary bin flush with $510 and $100 notes.
    “There was too much to count - I thought someone was playing a prank on me,” he said.
   “But when I touched the notes - all yellow and green - I realised it was real money.”
   The stunned worker immediately called his supervisor, and before long police and a plumber pulled more than $100,000 from that Bourke St bathroom - $1200 of it plucked from the pipes. The suspicious stash sent investigators scrambling.
   But police were never able to establish the origin of the cash, and no one ever came forward to claim it.
  And so this week, the cleaner-turned-fast food worker, who’s now studying IT in New Zealand, received a phone call to say the haul was his. “I was speechless,” Mr Amarsinghe said.
   On Tuesday, in ordering the bulk of the cash should go to Mr Amarsinghe, magistrate Michael Smith said: “There’s no reason why such honesty should go unrewarded.”  Detective Senior Constable Daniel Thorne, who investigated the case, agreed. “All the guys in the office felt the same. He’s a struggling student who straight-up didn’t even think of pocketing it,” Sen-Constable Thorne told the Herald Sun. The Melbourne Magistrates’ Court heard that Sydney man Emerald Nguyen was charged with dealing with the proceeds of crime over the mystery cash haul. 
   But following a doctor’s report, in which Mr Nguyen claimed he had been involuntarily drug affected and had no knowledge of the money coming into or leaving his possession, baffled investigators dropped the charges.
   Mr Nguyen also signed a notice of abandonment, declaring he had no stake in the mystery haul.
  His windfall was the second piece of wonderful news for Mr Amarsinghe this week: he also learned that he had been granted permanent residency in Australia.
 “I just want to spend my life in a normal way, find a job in IT and carry out that dream,” he said.
 The money, he said, was a blessing. While he didn’t know how he would spend it all, some would go to helping disabled people and some to a Buddhist temple in Berwick.

“I’m really, really lucky. I’m not going to waste it,” he said.  

Landslide collapses road in Baltimore.

      One lane of the East 26th Street between North Charles and St. Paul streets collapsed about 4 p.m. and slid down an embankment leading to the tracks below. The cause of the collapse was unclear, but it came on a day that the region was  experiencing heavy rainstorms.
Several streets were closed late Wednesday afternoon. St. Paul and Charles are major thoroughfares that are generally crowded during both the morning and evening commutes. The neighborhood is largely residential rowhouses. Traffic was reported to be snarled in the area of the collapse and downtown.
   Brennan said no houses were damaged, but fire officials said many residents living along East 26th Street were ordered to leave until building inspectors can assess their properties.
Photographs show a wide area of destruction in what appears to have been a landslide. The railroad tracks are covered with water, dirt and more than a half-dozen cars that went down the embankment. Baltimore officials said CSX has suspended rail service through the city.

Snake Eaten From Inside Out After Swallowing Centipede Alive.පොළෙඟකු සහ ගරුඬෙකු අතර සිදුවු මාරාන්තික ගැටුමක්..

  The snake (Vipera ammodytes) was found dead with the head of a Megarian banded centipede (Scolopendra cingulata) protruding through the body wall of its lower abdomen. The young female snake appeared to miscalculate the size and strength of its prey. Even though the snake managed to consume the centipede, it appeared to have taken its meal alive, which proved to be a fatal mistake.
The find was made by herpetologist Ljiljana Tomovic on May 14th, 2013, and in the report, published last month, Tomovic and her collaborators describe what happened when a two-fanged snake took on a hundred-legged centipede.
The centipede was only 5 centimeters shorter than the snake itself and actually weighted slightly more than the snake. The prey constituted 84 percent of the snake's trunk length, 112 percent of its body width and 114 percent of its body weight, the researchers said.
What's more, the centipede was essentially wearing its predator like a cloak; it has consumed or destroyed all of the snake's internal organs, leaving only the skin behind.
It is extremely tough to kill a Megarian banded centipede, the researchers said.
"[In] this case we assume the young snake gravely underestimated the size and strength of the centipede, which itself is known as a ferocious predator."
They concluded: "[We] cannot dismiss the possibility that the snake had swallowed the centipede alive, and that, paradoxically, the prey has eaten its way through the snake, almost reaching its freedom."

The girl is five months younger than the UK's previous youngest mum while her mother becomes one of the UK's youngest ever grans at the age of 27. A source told The Sun: "The baby's mum and dad have been in a relationship for more than a year, so this isn't a fleeting romance. They intend to stick together and bring their daughter up together.
    "Both sets of grandparents are incredibly supportive. It's a very difficult situation because the parents are both so young but their families are right behind them." The UK's previous youngest mum Tressa Middleton gave birth in Edinburgh aged 12 years eight months in 2006. The world's youngest mum was Lina Medina from Ticrapo, Peru, who gave birth to son Gerardo when she was just five years and seven months in 1939.
